🏠 Home alternatives

Don't have all the materials? No problem.

  • Instead of toy store sand β†’ use clean, dry river or construction sand.
  • Instead of store-bought molds β†’ use cookie cutters, container lids or shape it with your hands.
  • If you don't have cornstarch β†’ try with just damp sand, it's also moldable.

πŸ“‹ Step-by-step instructions

  1. Mix 2 cups of sand with 1 cup of cornstarch in the container.
  2. Add water little by little, mixing until you get a consistency that molds but crumbles when released.
  3. Experiment by molding figures, castles or whatever you can imagine.
  4. Add more water if the mix is too dry, more cornstarch if it's too wet.
  5. When finished let it air dry and store the mix in a closed container.

πŸ’‘ Extra ideas

  • Add food coloring to the mix to make colored sand.
  • Hide small objects inside the sand for your child to discover β€” like an archaeological dig.
  • Compare the texture with plain sand and playdough β€” which one do you like best?
