🏠 Home alternatives

Don't have all the materials? No problem.

  • Instead of tissue paper β†’ use a plastic grocery bag β€” it's lightweight and wind resistant.
  • Instead of wooden sticks β†’ use thick plastic straws joined with tape.
  • Instead of a fabric tail β†’ use strips of plastic bags or crepe paper.

πŸ“‹ Step-by-step instructions

  1. Form an X with the two sticks and tie them together at the center with string.
  2. Stretch string along the tips of the sticks to form the kite outline and tie it off.
  3. Place the frame over the plastic bag or tissue paper and cut leaving a 2 cm margin.
  4. Fold the edges over the string and secure with tape.
  5. Tie a long string at the center as the flying line.
  6. Add the tail at the bottom and decorate with markers.
  7. Go to the park and run into the wind to get it airborne.

πŸ’‘ Extra ideas

  • Decorate the kite with your child's name and the date to make it a keepsake.
  • Experiment with different tail lengths β€” a longer tail gives more stability.
  • Take a video of the moment the kite first rises into the sky.
